My not-so-long affair with Essays.ph

Author's note: Wow, buhay pa pala ang blog ko, akalain mo. Actually I have two blogs, this one (Yin) and Yang, because I liked delineating stuff. Anyway, here I am, after four years of no activity, finally able to write again.

A lot has happened in the past few years since I created this blog. So, to update you: I graduated in 2010, and then spent more than two years doing volunteer community and research work. I got married recently, and returned to school at the same time for a master’s degree, because I plan to teach in university in the near future.

*********************************************

I used to have a private tutorial job but since school is over for the academic year, I’m currently a stay-at-home mom-to-be; yes, you got that right, I’m currently seven months pregnant, and happy at that. :D However, I’m not really used to having so much time in my hands, and I actually want to be productive while I await my due date. That’s when I remembered about my pending application at Essays.ph (EPH)

I first encountered EPH when I was still a second year college student at UP Diliman, in early 2008, I think. It was referred to me by a friend and orgmate (we were both writing for the school paper) when I said I was looking for some lucrative part-time job to tide me over. Simply put, I wanted a little financial independence, aside from the fact that I’m a little ashamed to ask for more allowance from my parents.

When said friend mentioned EPH was an online writing job, I was wary at first. What if it was a scam? But my friend assured me that EPH paid up for the articles, and usually on time. I also asked about compensation, and she said that the salary was actually on per article basis, so it would depend on your own productivity.

Eventually I decided to sign up, mid-2008. However, my parents balked a bit at my plans, and I didn’t really focus on fixing the requirements (such as a bank account for the payment scheme). Soon my mind got caught on other, more pressing matters in the university, and I forgot all about Essays.ph

Then a few months back in January, I remembered. That was only when I actually submitted my test assignment, and since I already have a bank account ready, it wasn’t too much trouble anymore. Afterward, forgetful that I am, I stopped checking back again for several months, until I came across an email reminding me of my application.

My Essays account says I’ve been a member since October 2008, and I’ve been on the black team since then. However, truth be told, I’ve only been active less than a month ago or so, after I checked and saw that my application has been approved.

Still, despite my long but still relatively short stint at EPH, I must say I’m happy to work here. It is really a job for writers like me — you work at your own pace (as long as you stick with deadlines) at the comfort of your home. You learn a lot from the assignments as you get to review stuff you never even imagined existed, and you get paid for it too.

And lastly, the best feature perhaps is the warm welcome you receive from fellow writers at the forums. When you’re having a bad day, you could simply check out new posts or make a post yourself and find yourself in the middle of a conversation with your colleagues.

Ultimately, I recommend Essays.ph to friends who’d be interested to write for extra income. And yes, I’m definitely staying there, and staying active at that.
